First Half of 2014 SKS Market Report

2014 has seen some interesting action in the SKS Market as some interesting high-end SKS examples have appeared for sale. For instance, in all of 2013, there was a grand total of 29 SKS confirmed sales for Vietnam bring-backs and the first half of 2014 there have been 1424 confirmed sales by the GunStockMarket of SKS claiming to be Vietnam bring-backs. An SKS with documented bring-back papers continues to demand a premium, and even a possibility of "bring-back" status brings in bids. This area of SKS collecting is not showing any signs of slowing down. If 2014 continues at the rate it has been at, it will exceed the numbers posted in 2014.

The top-end of the SKS market continues to be strong. In addition to the Vietnam bring-back (where true documented examples with paperwok have consistently commanded high prices), many Russian SKS and examples from other varieties topped the $1,000 mark in the first six months of 2014. While there were appearances by examples of the Tact-i-cool Mall-Ninja style topping the $1K mark, the remainer were collector pieces in the original configuration.
Examples of an East German and NVA SKS showed up in the first half of 2013. The NVA and East German SKS do not grace too many collections, and have consistently brought high prices when they do trade hands.

Volume of sales have remained fairly consistent, but are nowhere near the panic of early 2013. The spread of prices from high to low shows that there was a SKS available at many price points from pure collector pieces to more common, and shootable, SKS. Even with the over-$1K prices for a limited number of SKS, the average price remained in reach of many shooters.
